The Paach is a ritual of veneration of corn celebrated in the municipality of San Pedro Sacatepéquez. It is a ceremony of thanksgiving for a good harvest, highlighting the close connection between humans and nature. The ceremony involves prayerful speakers, called "parlamenteros," who deliver offering prayers in the Mayan Mam language. Inclusion on the UNESCO list of cultural heritage allows states to mobilize the necessary cooperation and assistance to safeguard it, with the participation of the communities that practice it. The ritual celebration includes acts of offering with prayers said in the Mam Mayan language, dances, and a meal based on maize. Older men and women dress the ears of maize in traditional costumes, say prayers during the offering ceremonies, organize the preparation and serving of the ritual meal, and perform dances to the sound of marimbas. In recent years, the transmission of this cultural practice has declined: young people, and even some custodians of this tradition, no longer participate in the La Paach ceremony.
